Stress Time Management -- What You Need to Know
|
Time is an important resource. We all have the same 24 hours in every day, but how we use them is up to us. The subject of stress time management is a crucial one. Stress is often caused or made worse by poor time management. An effective way to reduce the level of stress in your life is to practice better time management skills. However, before you practice them you have to learn them. Many people have a problem with procrastination. You may not even realize the extent of your procrastination problem.
How much of your time is spent in time-wasting activities? If you truthfully list all the time you spend brooding, checking email, pacing or sitting aimlessly, surfing the web, having unnecessary phone conversations or delaying work in other ways, you will find that there is a lot of time you're not using to its fullest. By identifying the areas where you're wasting time, you can fix the problem. You may be procrastinating for a reason you're not even aware of. For example, if you dislike your job you might be finding ways to delay it.
Another reason for procrastination is the fear of success. Many people feel they don't deserve to be successful and sabotage their own progress by wasting time. If this is a problem for you, the solution is to take action. Force yourself to jump into the activity you're avoiding. Once you do, you'll find yourself making progress which spurs more progress. Another way to practice better time management is to create a schedule for yourself. By writing down what you want to accomplish and giving each goal a time limit, you have a guide to work with.
Sometimes you just need more time. In these cases, there are easy ways to find it. Look for things you can cut out of your life. Are there activities that are not necessary that can be eliminated? If not, you may want to get up earlier in the morning and get a head start on your day. Even thirty minutes can make a substantial difference when used wisely. To learn more about stress time management, check out some titles from your local library or bookstore. Here are two to get you started: The 25 Best Time Management Tools & Techniques: How to Get More Done Without Driving Yourself Crazy by Pamela Dodd and Doug Sundheim and Time Tactics of Very Successful People by B.
